End of an Era
End of an Era
It’s with a bit of heavy heart that I’ve got to announce that, after a long trip to VW Kampers in West Sussex, we’ve now sold Absinthe. We’ve had her for ten years and the time has come for her to sprinkle some magic into some new owners’ lives.
I’m not sure what we’ll do next, but we’ve got plenty of adventures coming up at our Static in Shropshire and there’s a possibility that we may buy a larger Campervan, with a bit more comfort. I’m 65 now, with some pain in my hip, so sleeping on the rock and roll bed has become much more difficult.
We’d both like to thank all the friends we’ve made in the VW Community along the way and, hopefully, many of those friendships can extend beyond van ownership. We’ve had great times over the last decade and visited some fantastic places, both here in the UK and in Europe. Our particular love of France won’t diminish, but our accommodation will definitely have to, for the time being.
To anyone thinking of buying a campervan, I’d say, just do it. Yes, there’s some expense involved but it’s definitely worth it and there’s a great community of like-minded people out there (even if some of them are a bit sniffy about the Brazilian T2c 😉 )
To everyone who’s read my Blog, I’d like say thank you. It started as a way to chronicle our trips, so that I’d remember them during the dark, black dog days of winter. Whenever someone writes a comment it puts a big grin on my face, so I’m not sure what to do about it going forward. I may adapt it to be based on trips to the Static – but if we do end up buying a new van or motorhome, I’ll definitely use it for those trips, although I accept that the photos won’t be quite as scenic without Absinthe in the background. 🙁
That’s it for now then, so I’ll leave you with photos from the day we picked her up in 2011.
Postscript
Absinthe has gone off to her new home now. We wish the new owners well and hope they have as much fun as we did with her. Onwards, Absinthe, onwards…
New adventures await and absinthe will bring such pleasure to her new family. 💚
Good luck with your new adventures. I’ve enjoyed reading about your trips.
We’ve both loved reading of your adventures, and being part of some of them, see you again soon hopefully. Geoff and Dave
Good luck for the future. Looking forward to tracing your steps in the Hebrides this summer, thanks to your blog. We will miss it!
Loved reading about your adventures, thanks for sharing. All the best for your new adventures x
Best of luck to you two. Absinthe was my always 2nd favourite campervan!

Awww what a lovely way to sign off the 10 years. Wishing you all the best for the future and keep in touch through FB.
Took myself off social media so have only just found out about your decision to part with Absinthe. I fully appreciate how hard that is, these vans become part of your family.
Buy yourselves a T6, luxury compared to the T2, love ours.
All the very best for your future adventures!
Cheers Nick. If we get another I think it’ll be bigger than a T6. Btw, I’ve missed you on social media.
